Inside Parkway Apartments -- Living Inside the Heart of Auburn
When you start looking for an apartment in Auburn, AL, you'll see a neighborhood called "Inside Parkway". But where exactly is it? And, more importantly, why should you consider living there?
First things first -- Inside Parkway refers to the part of town that's east of the Shug Jordan Parkway. Named for former Auburn football coach Ralph "Shug" Jordan, this Parkway makes a wide half-moon shape around the Auburn University campus. Before getting its football-friendly name, this road was called "West University Drive" because it skirted the western side of campus.
OK, so why should you look for an Inside Parkway apartment?
- Because it provides easy access to campus
Even if your apartment is a little further north or south of the exact spot on Auburn's campus that you need to get to, hopping on the Shug Jordan Parkway is much easier than trying to navigate the smaller, busier streets that run through the campus. You'll be able to go 55 MPH on the four-lane parkway, instead of dealing with a bunch of stop-and-go traffic.
- Because it will give you easy access to I-85
If your apartment is on Auburn's northwest side, you'll be grateful for an efficient way to get to I-85. Luckily, you can just hop on the Parkway, take it south to University Drive, and head north on the expressway towards Opelika and, eventually, Atlanta. Or, you can hop on I-85 where it intersects with the Parkway and go south towards Montgomery.
- Because it's close to the Auburn Industrial Park
Even though it's not technically inside the parkway, the Auburn Industrial Park is only a few minutes west of it -- meaning this is a perfect place to rent an apartment if you're one of the 2,200 people who works there.
- Because it's growing
Even though the parkway intersects with Donahue Drive a few miles north of the Auburn campus, there's constant talk about building more in this area. At the end of 2014, the Auburn Planning Commission heard a proposal to build a grocery store, a 10,000 square foot retail building, a fast food restaurant, and a gas station all at this one intersection. It's proof that more and more people are calling this side of town home!
- Because you'll have easy access to two shopping centers
If your Inside Parkway apartment is further north, you'll only be a few minutes from Auburn Mall -- a traditional mall that also has newer streetscape-style shops. Or, if your Inside Parkway apartment is further to the south, you'll be close to Tiger Crossing Shopping Center -- which is smaller than the mall, but has a variety of stores and restaurants.
