Entertainment in the Auburn Area -- Here's What You Can Look Forward To
If you're thinking of renting an apartment in the Auburn area, you probably want to know what you'll be able to do in your spare time. Luckily, there's no shortage of entertainment in Auburn!
You probably already know that college football is big here, but that’s not all Auburn has to offer. Here are some of the lesser-known entertainment opportunities that you can look forward to:
- An actual entertainment district
Back in 2012, city leaders approved an ordinance that allows people to carry their alcoholic beverages out in the streets of Downtown. The goal was to make the Downtown area more festive, more relaxed, and just a generally more fun place to be. Now, whether you want to walk down the street while you sip on craft beer from The Avondale Bar and Tap Room, a margarita from The Bank Vault, or a martini from The Cellar, you can do it. That way, you can enjoy ALL of the Downtown sights and meet more people.
- Watching the fun -- or getting involved in it yourself
The Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center is home to everything from orchestra concerts, to art exhibitions, to theater productions, so if you're looking for an affordable way to enjoy the fine arts, this is the place to be. It's also the place to be if you want to get in touch with your inner-artist! In addition to watching performances here, you can also sign up for art, dance, music, and theater classes. The Center also hosts art education programs and special lectures, so there are plenty of ways to get the entire family involved!
- Enjoying the great outdoors
At Chewacla State Park, you can get an adrenaline rush on the mountain bike trails, fish, paddle board, camp out overnight, or simply enjoy a warm afternoon of sunbathing. And, if you want to save a little money in the process, you can purchase an annual pass that gives you cheaper admission.
While College Street may be home to a ton of bars and restaurants, if you head a few minutes north of the Auburn campus, you'll see that College Street is also home to the Louise Kreher Forest Ecology Preserve and Nature Center. Inside, there are themed walking trails that are perfect for spotting local wildlife and geocaching.
If you're really into critters, head to the Southeastern Raptor Center. All of the raptors here have been rescued, and they're taken care of by the staff. You'll get to learn all about them and even get close enough to them to take some great pictures. And, of course, there's also a War Eagle who lives here!
